Patrick “Pat” Calhoun is a 1999 Seymour High School graduate and a four-time varsity letter winner in boys swimming.
Calhoun won the IHSAA state championship in the 100-yard breaststroke and swam on the 200-medley relay team that was state runner-up in 1999. He led the 1999 Seymour team to a conference championship, second place in the sectional and a 9th place finish in the state meet. His time of 56.65 seconds in the 100-breaststroke in 1999 was the sixth fastest time in the nation. Calhoun won the Seymour team Most Valuable Swimmer Award in 1997, 1998 and 1999. And he earned NISCA All-American honors five times.
Calhoun continued his swim career at Auburn University, where he was co-captain of the 2003 NCAA Championship team. He won two NCAA championships in the 200 and 400-medley relays and was a 9-time All American with the Tigers. Calhoun’s teams won four straight Southeastern Conference championships and he was a three-time SEC champ in the 100-breaststroke and broke the conference record in the event.
In 2000, Calhoun earned a place on the Unites States Olympic team in the 100-breaststroke and competed in the 2000 summer games in Sydney, Australia. His time in the 100-breaststroke was the 4th fastest in U.S. history and the 7th fastest of all-time.
Calhoun still holds the Seymour High School record in the 200-yard Individual Medley and has the second fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke.
